Hmm, if this is your pastor Chris, would he listen to her request?

Do you think if a normal Christian comes up to the Pastor and asks to preach a certain subject, would the response be favorable?

Perhaps you missed the humor of the astrology using woman? Not sure.
But how would my pastor respond to someone asking him to preach on a subject? That’s easy for me to answer. Each summer, from June-late August, my Sr. pastor basically does exactly this. In early April he gives out cards to the congregation, asking them to fill it in with questions they have about the Bible, and areas they would like to learn more about. He filters them, looks for patterns, and tries to select things he hasn’t preached on for a while, and keeps in mind the needs of the church, and uses that for the foundation of his Summer Sermon Sampler as he likes to call it. It’s a summer long series of variety.
So while he might not specifically address a subject requested, he does give people a yearly opportunity for requests and does take their input seriously. He makes no promises, and of course there is more suggestions than he could ever cover in this short period, but he makes it work.

Does doing the summer sermon sampler help people overcome being religious or complacent in your church? Does your people get excited when this is offered?

I think the answer to both questions is yes. He preached on worship songs/hymns for two weeks for example. The church has been transitioning from mostly hymns to a blend of hymns and contemporary (50/50). For some it was/is a significant issue, and there of course, people on both sides of the issue. For whatever reason, music is one of the most devisive points in churches. Some people would just as soon that you start sacrificing things on the alter before you change music. Of course it’s been a problem in churches for at least hundreds of years. It gives him the ability to be topical in a sense while sticking to his traditional exegetical style.
He had preached on the “one anothers” from before Christmas through June, and will start a new series in September, though it slips my mind what the new series will be on.
